Unique Proposal Ideas in Dallas Texas | Ellen Ashton Photography | Dallas Wedding | Photographers

Robert gets the gold star for the most unique proposal ideas in Dallas! I got a messages on my instagram from Robert about two months before he popped THE question to Victoria. We hopped on a call and he started telling me that he booked a privet trolly and wanted to proposal to his girl friend on it. He told me that this was a very personal thing for them, as they loved taking the trolly together in Downtown Dallas, Tx. His plans were so sentimental and I just knew it was going to be perfect.

The day of their proposal it was due to rain. So, i grabbed my raincoat, and hid my camera inside my jacket and made my way to S&D Oyster co. The wait felt like hours, simply because I knew the rain was coming and there was no way to stop it. Finally the trolly, Robert and Victoria appeared and it was about to go down.. and so was the rain. I can’t explain to you how whimsical and special it was. The rain was falling as his asking Victoria to be his wife.

I am a huge believer in “if you can’t beat them- join them!” they took the rain like champs and embraced it. Y’all, their photos turned out so amazing. THE JOY was incredible. Contagious, even.

If you are planning an proposal in Dallas my few pieces of advice would be:

  1. Hire a good photographer. Call them and come up with a plan to insure that you will have the best possible outcome. Sometimes when you book someone who has been doing this awhile, they can have some really helpful advising in ensuring your soon to be bride is surprised!

  2. You can plan and plan, but you can’t pick the weather. Embrace it! THIS WAS THE DAY and you will want to remember it, even if the weather isn’t ideal. Regardless, you can make the most of it and have a wonderful time doing so! Getting engaged is a once in a lifetime thing, and the rain can make it even that much more special!

  3. Make your proposal an experience. If you are going to invest in a lavish proposal, make it an experience you can enjoy together.

  4. While having a proposal filled with loved ones running out of bushes immediately after you propose can be one couples preference, what I think Robert did was perfect for them. They rode the trolly for an hour before heading to their engagement party with their family and friends. They sipped on champagne, ate a slice of pizza and took photos while they laughed and giggled and drank in the moments of their engagement. It gave them time to be alone and enjoy their engagement before seeing everyone. If it were me, that would be exactly what I would want! If that’s not your thing, that’s ok. But if you are unsure, I would encourage a moment together before joining the party!

Happy planning!
